It's the Fall Haul, y'all!

Okay, so here's the deal. I planned on making this post around a month ago, when it was still vaguely fall and not 30 degrees where I live. Soooooooooo, I'm sorry for the title of this post being a lie (and also for the truly terrible rhyme I made). I'm super excited to share with you one of the most epic book hauls I've ever had. A lot of highly anticipated books are contained within it. Let's get going!

1. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Image result for six of crows    Six of Crows is the first book in a new series by Leigh Bardugo set in the same universe to her previous series The Grisha Trilogy (The Shadow and Bone series). This book features a wide cast of characters featuring runaways, sharpshooters, thieves and much more! The cover is absolutely gorgeous, and currently there is a limited edition hardcover available that has black pages, which are really epic looking.
I loved The Grisha Trilogy, and I read them as they came out. Bardugo does an incredible job of blending dark fantasy with romance while still making it very different from any other YA series that exists. I'm very excited to have multiple narrators and a larger cast of characters for this series because I think it will be done really well. I would definitely recommend her books to anyone who is fan of Game of Thrones or Throne of Glass.

2. Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas
Speaking of Throne of Glass...OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS SERIES! I marathoned the first three books in June and I was super pumped when this one came out in September. I sped through it and it was definitely my favorite of the series. This series is part of the more mature part of the YA genre. It's dark and violent, but so so so well written. I'd recommend it to anyone over 14 who's into fantasy and magic. The main character Celeana is incredible and one of the best female leads I've ever read. The cast of characters is so diverse and even the minor characters are fantastic. In this most recent installment especially because all the characters really band together to create the ultimate dream team.  Sarah J. Maas truly created  work of art with this series and specially this book. I  think I've found my new series to obsess over and obsess over getting the book the day it's released.

3. The Copper Gauntlet by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black
This is the second installment in YA superstars Cassandra Clare and Holly Black's new middle grade series The Magisterium. I was absolutely blown away by the first book The Iron Trial and you can find my review for that here. This book has been highly anticipated by me ever since I read the first one and you can expect a review soon after I read it. It's pretty much next on my TBR list (if school doesn't get in the way). I am sad to inform you that I have yet to read another Holly Black book, but I'm very intrigued by A Darker Part of the Forest. Maybe that'll be in my next book haul. However, I have out a lot of energy into being excited about Cassandra Clare's book that comes out next year, Lady Midnight. And Shadowhunters. Let's not forget Shadowhunters which premiers January 12th on ABC Family soon to be #Freeform (a fact which the Shadowhunters Instagram has yet to cease reminding me about -_-).

4. Black Widow Forever Red by Margaret Stohl
For a book I don't know very much about, I am super excited about it! This book is apparently the backstory of our favorite female Avenger, Black Widow aka Natasha Romanoff. Now, this book isn't just some Marvel super fan's fanfiction that got published. No, no. Maragaret Stohl actually worked with Marvel Cinemas to develop this story, so it is the official Black Widow backstory. I am super excited to read this because I've been hoping and praying for this particular backstory to be released (by the way, I am a huge Marvel nerd). I am holding out hopes for the book to be preluding to a Black Widow movie sometime in the future. There's a small part of my brain that's like, "Libby, this is just their way of appeasing you. You're getting this instead of a movie." The other part of my brain tells this part to shut up.
Unfortunately, I have other doubts. I have been disappointed by this author before with the Beautiful Creatures Series. She did have a co-author on that series so I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt with this book. I'm really hoping she won't disappoint me again, because the disappointment at the end of Beautiful Redemption was brutal! *Uncle Randolph voice* I could give you a two hour lecture on this topic alone.

5. Legend by Marie Lu
This classic dystopian read has been on my TBR list for a while, now. I bought this back in August and read it immediately, despite the fact that I was supposed to be finishing my summer reading. IT WAS SO GOOD. A friend of mine had just read it and spoke highly of the author so I has high hopes. I was not disappointed. I thought it was very interesting and different take on the classic oppressive government, military-based dystopian society. Unfortunately, some things have come up, and haven't been able to read the next book Prodigy, but it's waiting on my shelf for me.

6. The Selection Series by Kiera Cass

Dear girl from my English class last year who begged me to read this series, I FINALLY DID IT. Love, Libby. That's right. I finally read The Selection. I had heard mixed reviews about these books, but I finally gave them a chance. I actually really enjoyed this series. Not my favorite, but it was a nice break from all the violence of the Sarah J. Maas books I had just read. I could have done with a slightly less wishy-washy main character, but all in all, they were really good. I thought this series was a trilogy, but apparently it is going to be five books, and the fourth one is already out. The Heir is about the main characters' children and is set years later after the previous books. Unfortunately, even the girl who convinced me to read the series said that this book wasn't worth it. I'm not sure if I will ever read these next two books, but it definitely won't be any time soon. I think I'd rather just keep my happy ending from the first three books. It felt complete anyway. Maybe I'll just pretend these next books didn't happen.

7. The Martian by Andy Weir
Both of my parents read this book over the summer and loved it. I don't know much about it except what I've gleaned from the movie trailer. The movie was apparently also amazing. I haven't read a lot of science fiction (that aren't YA dystopias) so I'm pretty pumped to dive into this book sometime soon. If you're interested in watching the trailer, click here or reading a more in-depth summary, click here.

8. Winter by Marissa Meyer
I don't know if you guys are aware of this, but I am obsessed with the Lunar Chronicles. It's been over a year since I read the rest of the series and the finale is finally here!!! Winter completely blew me away. I thought Meyer did an incredible job of ending the series and tying all the characters' stories in a neat little bow. This series is the perfect blend of all my favorite things: YA literature and fairy tales. If you haven't already, I strongly suggest you pink up the first book Cinder.
However, I do have one complaint. I have been fantasizing about the size of this book since the moment I looked on Goodreads to see that it was OVER 800 PAGES! I was expecting a City of Heavenly Fire-Order of the Phoenix- Queen of Shadows-sized book. I was sorely disappointed. When the man at Books-A-Million (shout out to BAM) handed me a book smaller than the third book Cress, I immediately inspected it to see what was the source of my disappointment. Apparently, someone is making some budget cuts because the book still had 800 pages, but they were super thin, like gross, public restroom toilet paper thin. Dear Feiwel and Friends publishing company, I am not amused.

9. The Amazing Book is Not On Fire by Dan Howell and Phil Lester
I cannot explain in coherent words how proud I am of my little YouTube babies, Dan and Phil. They wrote a book! With pages and everything! I feel like I wrote this book with them because they vlogged every step of the way. The book was so funny, and I even pre-ordered it so I could have it the day it came out in the US, a right usually reserved only to Rick Riordan books. One small complaint, however. Do you know how difficult it was to be on the internet without seeing spoiler since it came out a week later in the US than it did in the UK???? I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone who doesn't watch them on YouTube, but I can link you to a post where a talk about them in case you're considering subscribing to them here. WARNING: This book is not a memoir like other YouTubers' books. It is purely meant to be funny, which it infinitely succeeds at.

10. Reawakened by Colleen Houck
Honestly, I only bought this book because it was by Colleen Houck. I didn't even know what it was about at the time. But she wrote Tiger's Curse how could I not buy it?! Colleen Houck is an auto-buy author seeing as how much I loved her Indian mythology series. Luckily for me, I'm actually super excited for this book now that I've read the synopsis! She's delved into Egyptian mythology this time, a topic I find super interesting (actually I find all mythology interesting, but that's beside the point). The Kane Chronicles is what really prompted my obsession with reading, so Egyptian mythology will always hold a place in my heart. I think having this familiarity will also help me going into the book because Egyptian mythology is a little difficult to grasp for a first time mythology-goer. This book is very high up on my TBR list, so hopefully I'll get to it soon and a review will be on the way.

11.  The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan
I'm not going to go too far into this book because I already did a review of it, which you can find here. I also totally loved this book (wow this book haul has had a lot of winners, no wonder I'm so pumped writing this). Riordan has done it again, this time with Norse mythology, something he's wanted to do for a very long time and that I'm very proud of him for. Any fan of Riordan's work will enjoy this book, but the great thing about his writing is that it's enjoyable by all.

12. Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
This book, man. This book. IT WAS SO GOOD. IT MADE ME SO HAPPY AND ALL WARM INSIDE. It was like reading adorable fluffy fanfiction, but well written. I feel so awful that I couldn't write a review after I read it, because I have so many thoughts and I breezed through it. Some things just got in the way, and I was reading it at the same time as a book for school, which required an essay and uuuuuuugh. I'll most likely reread it because it'll make a great mourning period book, and maybe then I'll do a review. Oh gosh, this little snippet really didn't do Carry On justice. JUST READ THE BOOK. Please note: this is loosely based off of Cath's fanfiction in Rainbow Rowell's previous book Fangirl. However, it is not the same as that fanfiction and you don not have to have read Fangirl to read this book. It does give a little bit of context but it's not necessary.

Well, that's it for now, but don't worry. I'm sure there'll be another book haul up soon, especially with Christmas just around the corner....Adios!
