News from the Shadowhunter World

So I have recently discovered some things about Cassandra Clare's plans for the future that I thought the fandom would appreciate knowing. Many of you may already be familiar with this news, but I am so excited and I want to share it with those who don't! WARNING: this contains spoilers for both current series.

1. Multiple New Series
This is most definitely old news, but I thought it needed to be said. Cassandra currently has two series making up the Shadowhunter Chronicles, The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices. Right now she is in the process of writing the first book, Lady Midnight, of The Dark Artifices (TDA) series, or as I called it until recently, The Dark Artifacts. Whoops.
Lady Midnight is set to be released in March of 2016. I am super excited that TDA is going to be a trilogy as I, personally, liked TID much more than TMI. I have very high hopes for this series, as our new (blonde) kick-ass female protagonist sounded amazing when she was introduced in City of Heavenly Fire.
Following TDA, Cassandra plans to release two more Shadowhunter series. The first will be The Last Hours, which follows the children of the characters in TID. This one has me very excited, especially after reading The Bane Chronicles. The final series in the Shadowhunter Chronicles will be The Wicked Powers. I know very little about this series as there is nothing about it on Cassandra's website anymore. Rumors are flying, of course, that the series will be an ebook or that it may not even happen. Despite this, I am still very excited about all the stories Cassandra plans to unfold.

2. Ebook Stories
Speaking of ebooks, Cassandra is in the process of releasing ebook stories detailing Simon's adventures at the Shadowhunter Academy. It takes place after the events of City of Heavenly Fire. Only two of the stories, Welcome to the Shadowhunter Academy and The Lost Herondale are out yet, but Cassandra plans to release one story each month. The next eight stories are already available for pre-order.

3. TV Show
Possibly the most exciting thing Cassandra has planned for us is a Shadowhunter TV show! As we all know, the City of Bones movie sucked. Fortunately, the producers of Shadowhunters are totally scrapping it and starting over. The plot is set to take place at the start of the series. The characters have been aged up a few years and are in college. Usually I am not a fan of changing the ages of characters, but this is not a series where age is an important component in the plot, unlike Percy Jackson.
Casting is going on now, and filming is set to start in May. The show will be filmed in Vancouver and will be premiering on ABC Family. I am very excited to tell you that it is a straight-to-series show, meaning that we will not have to wait for a network to pick up the pilot. The fandom has been promised a TV show and a TV show we will get!

I am super excited for all of these things, and I hope you are too. If you haven't read Cassandra Clare's books, (why did you read this?) you should definitely pick them up! I'll have another blog post up soon, which will mostly likely be a book talk. See you soon!
